KP Suspends Public Transport Due to COVID-19

In view of the deteriorating Coronavirus situation, the KP government has decided to shut down inter-district transport across the province on Saturdays and Sundays.

The decision comes into effect immediately as all district administrations have been ordered by the provincial government to strictly enforce the latest directive.

According to the official notification, the restriction will be applicable on public transport only. However, private transport and freight vehicles will be allowed to operate throughout the week.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has suggested the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) enforce a complete ban on inter-province public transport to curb the transmission of Coronavirus.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Institute of Animal Health in Karachi, CM Sindh said that Pakistan didn’t experience a severe wave of Coronavirus last summer because NCOC suspended domestic air and rail travel.

During the last 24 hours, Pakistan reported 5,234 cases and 83 deaths due to Coronavirus while the country’s COVID-19 positivity rate reached 10.43%.

In this regard, Federal Planning Minister, Asad Umar, who also heads the NCOC, has said that the entire region is witnessing a Coronavirus spike.

He also advised the public to wear a mask, avoid crowded places, wash hands or sanitize often, and reduce travel to only essential work.
