Dr Yasmin Announces A Solution to COVID-19 Bed Shortage Across Punjab

The Punjab’s Minister for Health, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, has revealed that the Health Department has been witnessing an alarming rise in the number of coronavirus patients in the ICUs.

The minister chaired a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Sunday to review the pandemic situation pertaining to the surge in the number of critically ill patients being admitted to the ICUs.

“We are enhancing the number of beds and ventilators in all hospitals of Punjab. In teaching hospitals of seven districts, outdoors of four specialties have been closed. All possible resources are being utilized to control the pandemic,” she said.

The minister said that the decision to procure more ventilators and medical equipment will be taken in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee, and added that the department will receive 100 new ventilators today, of which fifty will be used in Lahore, thirty in Rawalpindi, and ten each in Multan and Faisalabad.

Dr. Rashid added that important decisions will be taken in the meeting of the provincial cabinet, and that the provincial government has decided to vaccinate 20,000 individuals per day.

She also stressed that the public must observe the COVID-19 standard operating procedures and restrict their movement.
