In the previous match, Abbas took six wickets in the first innings, including a hattrick, following it up with three wickets in the second innings.

Abbas became the 40th Pakistani bowler in history to cross the 500 first-class wicket hallmark. Former Pakistan leg-spinner, Mushtaq Ahmed, has the most number of wickets in first-class cricket for Pakistan, taking a staggering 1,407 wickets in 309 matches.

Overall, five Pakistani bowlers have taken more than 1,000 first-class wickets, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Danish Kaneria, and Sarfaraz Nawaz, are the other four bowlers to take at least 1,000 scalps.

Abbas’s first-class record is magnificent. He has taken 501 wickets at an average of 20.69, including 36 five-wicket hauls and 11 ten-wicket hauls in 119 matches.

Abbas was one of the mainstays of the Pakistan Test team ever since making his debut in 2017, but he was dropped from the national team after a poor string of performances in the international arena. After impressing in the County Championship, Abbas will likely make a comeback to the national side in the country’s next Test series.
