Pakistan’s all-format captain, Babar Azam, broke yet another batting record, as he became the fastest batsman in the world to cross 2,000 runs in T20Is. Babar took only 52 innings to reach 2,000 runs, surpassing his Indian counterpart, Virat Kohli, who took 56 innings to reach the milestone.
With this impressive record, Babar became the 3rd Pakistani batsman to score 2,000 runs in T20Is. The veteran all-rounders, Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez, are the other two to cross the landmark. Overall, Babar is the 11th batsman to score at least 2,000 runs in T20I cricket.

Last week, Babar overtook Australian T20I captain, Aaron Finch in the ICC T20I batsman rankings, becoming the new number two in the world after scoring heavily in the T20I series against South Africa, scoring his first century, and added yet another half-century. He was not able to continue his fine form in the first two T20Is against Zimbabwe, falling cheaply on both occasions, before making a comeback in the final T20I to score 52 runs.
Earlier in the month, Babar was also crowned as the number one ODI batsman, overtaking Virat Kohli in the rankings yet again. Babar will turn his attention towards the Test format now, as Pakistan takes on Zimbabwe in the two-match test series, scheduled to begin from 29 April.
