Massive Internet Outage Takes Down Twitch, Reddit, Amazon and Many Other Websites

The internet was hit with a massive outage earlier today taking down several major websites including Amazon, Twitch, Reddit, and many others. The Verge’s parent company Vox Media has also been affected by this outage which is why theverge.com is down as well.

The outage started at around 2:30 pm (PST) with several reports being spotted at Down Detector as well as Twitch, which are some of the popular websites that remained unaffected. Several other media websites have also been affected by this outage including CNN, The New York Times, The Guardian, The Financial Times, and many more.

Usually, when such a major outage occurs, it can be traced back to some central service provider failing like the AWS (Amazon Web Services), which a lot of websites depend on. However, this time around, it seems that it caused by a company called Fastly which provides CDN (content delivery network) to many websites.

The company said that it started investigating the issue with its CDN services at around 3 pm (PST).

The issue is still under investigation and there are no updates so far. We will update this space as soon as there is more information.
