A native of Gilgit-Baltistan, Samina Baig is the first Muslim Pakistani woman to climb Mount Everest and the seven summits at a very young age of 21 years.

Samina Baig has been engaged with SCO for the past four years where she helps in promoting SCO initiatives in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

This expedition, which will mark Samina Baig as the first Pakistani woman to pitch Pakistan’s flag at the summit of 8,611 meters high peak, is sponsored and fully supported by SCO. The goal behind this initiative is to promote women’s empowerment while raising awareness about global warming and climate change.

Confident and excited to embark upon this journey which has been the ultimate dream for Samina Baig, she commented, “My spirits are high as I seek prayers of my well-wishers for accomplishing this challenge. My sincere appreciation to SCO for installing BTS system at Concordia near Broad Peak and K-2 Base camp.”

“The mobile coverage and internet access in this most extreme need and this will able the mountaineers and trekking groups like us to stay connected with their families and assist in emergency situations,” she added.
