Xiaomi Becomes the World’s Second Biggest Smartphone Company

Global smartphone shipments continued to witness growth throughout 2021, soaring 12 percent during the second quarter of the year.

According to global analytics firm Canalys, smartphone demand remains hot across the board amid pandemic-driven work-from-home trends that consumers all over the world have grown accustomed to.

As demand continued to soar, competition also grew among tech companies that engaged in a nail-biting fight to ship out products all over the world. Samsung (19%) sits at No.1, closely followed by Xiaomi (17%) at No.2, whose global numbers have spiked by more than 83 percent since the turn of the quarter.

If this level of growth continues to evolve at its current pace, the China-based tech giant may soon trump Samsung like it did one over Apple, and become the world’s biggest smartphone vendor before the end of this year.

However, Xiaomi needs to work on its marketing, which fail in comparison when stacked against the likes of fellow Chinese companies Oppo and Vivo, who’ve never shied away from spending big for marketing their products.

But, in any case, Xiaomi may not even need to spend a lot on its marketing, as its phones are more affordable and offer better hardware than the above-mentioned manufacturers and could end up tipping Samsung in global shipments by the end of the third quarter of this year.
