ZTE Axon 30 Launched With Invisible Selfie Camera and Snapdragon 870

Nearly a year after the ZTE Axon 20, the Axon 30 5G is here to continue its legacy of the innovative under-display camera. This time, the under-display (UD) selfie camera has been improved to be completely invisible with better image quality.

Design and Display

The display is a tall 6.92-inch AMOLED panel with 1080p resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 10-bit colors. The display area above the UD camera has been reworked with rearranged pixels with higher transparency cathodes. It now has double the PPI count above the camera (400 PPI up from 200 PPI).

ZTE claims that these display improvements get more light to the UD camera sensor with improved image clarity compared to last year. 

Internals and Storage

The main chipset has been upgraded to the Snapdragon 870, which brings flagship-grade performance onboard. This is paired with 6GB/8GB/12GB RAM and up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.

For software, you get Android 11 out of the box with ZTE’s MyOS 11 on top.

Cameras

The camera configuration is almost the same as last year. There is a 64MP Sony IMX682 main sensor alongside an 8MP ultrawide camera, a 5MP macro shooter, and a 2MP depth lens. The only difference is that the macro camera is now a 5MP shooter instead of 2MP.

The resolution on the UD front camera has been toned down to 16MP from 32MP.

Battery and Pricing

The 4,200 mAh battery is slightly low as per current standards, but it has support for 55W super-fast charging.

The ZTE Axon 30 5G will go for sale in China next week for $338.
