Chinese telecom giant, Huawei, has refuted allegations that it stole the technology of a US firm, Business Efficiency Solutions (BES), and pressurized to help it spy in Pakistan.
The company told Global Times, a state-run Chinese news outlet, that its respects third-party intellectual property rights, and there is no evidence showing that it created ‘backdoors’ in its products.

Huawei, a partner with Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) on Safe City Project in Lahore, is using BES software for the project.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the California-based software firm filed a lawsuit against Huawei in a California district court last week, accusing the Chinese tech company of pressurizing it to “set up a system in China that gives Huawei access to sensitive information about citizens and government officials from a safe city surveillance project in Pakistan’s second-largest city of Lahore.”

BES maintained that Huawei never paid for some of its software and accused Huawei of misusing its trade secrets in similar ‘Safe City’ projects in Pakistan and around the world.
While refusing to comment on the legal proceedings in the US, a spokesperson of Huawei told Global Times that it respects third-party intellectual property rights.
