Punjab Govt is Considering Improvements in Public Transport Systems

Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar chaired a meeting at his office on Monday to discuss a new transport system in the province, changes in the Orange Line Metro fare, and a crackdown on vehicles using Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders.

The Provincial Minister for Finance Hashim Jawan Bakht, Minister for Transport Jehanzeb Khan Kichi, Secretary Transport, Secretary Finance, and other officers attended the meeting while the Provincial Chief Secretary participated via video link.

They reviewed a proposal to launch double-decker buses in big cities like Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Multan, and the CM directed the concerned authorities to present comprehensive plans and recommendations to the provincial cabinet to make the final decision.

It was decided during the meeting that environment-friendly electric buses will be introduced in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Bahawalpur along with technology-based bus systems.

The attendees agreed to modify the fare system of the Orange Line Metro according to the distance traveled. Accordingly, commuters will be charged for the distance they travel.

They also discussed extending the scope of public transport services to remote areas like Dera Gazi Khan, and CM Buzdar instructed the concerned authorities to continue the crackdown on vehicles using LPG cylinders.
