Javed Afridi Shares a Teaser for MG Marvel R Electric SUV

Morris Garages (MG) Pakistan had not been in the news for a while, which may have prompted the ever-enterprising Javed Afridi to post a teaser of an upcoming MG EV on his social media.

The teaser is for the MG Marvel R — a new, all-electric SUV with which the company seeks to target the high-end electric vehicle (EV) market that is currently dominated by the Tesla Model Y, the Volkswagen ID 4, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and the Kia EV 6.

The top variant of the Marvel R is fitted with three electric motors (two in the front and one in the back), that collectively make 288 hp and 665 Nm of torque. Both the variants are fitted with a 70 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

The rear-wheel-drive variant gets 402 km of range, and the all-wheel-drive variant gets 370 km of range for its increased weight and power consumption.

As a high-end EV, the Marvel R has been equipped with modern amenities such as a 19.1-inch infotainment unit, various driver-assist features, a leather-trimmed interior, and a long list of comfort features for the driver and passengers.

The starting price of the Marvel R is the equivalent of $47,720 on account of being an upmarket product, while the high-end model can be had for almost $60,000 (an incredibly expensive amount in Pakistani currency).

This makes the matter even more interesting as Pakistan reportedly imported the Marvel R two months ago for testing purposes. However, considering its price, whether the Marvel R will actually debut in Pakistan is something to look forward to.

Do People Care?

Although Afridi keeps trying to entice the public with a variety of teasers, the burning question ‘WHERE IS THE MG 3?’ in the comments under his teaser tweets remains unanswered.

MG 3

As usual, Afridi had posted the images of the MG 3 on his social media account a while ago, asking for suggestions for its price. He had also tweeted images of the car with the caption “Less than Rs. 2 million?”, indicating that the MG3 would be more attainable of the MG vehicles, which resulted in a lot of excitement among the general public.

The company had stated at the display event for the MG HS CKD unit a few weeks ago that it plans to introduce a sedan, a midsize SUV, and a smaller vehicle in the Pakistan market. Although no exact details were shared, it is being speculated that the ‘smaller vehicle’ is likely to be the MG 3. Meanwhile, its launch date and price point are still under wraps.
