Islamabad to Get a Special Air Security Unit With Drones

Islamabad is going to have an air security unit with 12 drones to provide its citizens better security, Minister for Interior, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Monday.

While addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the minister said that the government has prepared a special security plan for the federal capital, under which 1,000 more security personnel will be inducted into the Islamabad Police.

“Besides, two locators will also be purchased,” the minister said, without further elaborating the security plan.

He said that the government was close to launching a crackdown on those involved in the issuance of fake COVID-19 vaccination certificates or other legal documents.

“We have a zero-tolerance policy against these elements,” Sheikh Rashid said, adding that these people will not be allowed to sabotage Pakistan’s image internationally.

The Interior Minister said that a special service of 24-hour passport delivery has been launched for those in need. The fee for an urgent passport will be Rs. 10,000, while the ordinary fee will be Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 8,000.

Sheikh Rashid said that the ministry had been receiving complaints about fake CNICs, after which internal inquiries were launched into the matter.

“136 employees found guilty of negligence in duty have been fired, while about 300 people have been charged in 90 inquiries,” he said.

He said that the on-arrival visa facility for Afghan citizens will be launched within three weeks, while the ministry is also considering waving off the $8 fee to facilitate people.

“In a first, the government has started the International Border Management System (IBMS) with 16 terminals at the Chaman border,” the minister said, adding that further five terminals will be added.

He said NADRA mobile vans have been parked at the Torkham and Chaman areas to facilitate people at checkpoints.
