Chery’s return to the Pakistani market in partnership with Ghandhara Nissan Limited has been massively anticipated since it was reported late last year. With the Pakistan Auto Show 2021 just around the corner, Chery is gearing up to make a lasting impression on the local auto industry.
According to our source from the industry, the company is likely to target the compact sedan, compact SUV, and midsize SUV segments in Pakistan upon arrival. It is yet to officially announce its product lineup for the Pakistani market but we believe that it will showcase the following vehicles in the Pakistan Auto Show 2021:
Chery Tiggo 8
Pakistan’s SUV market has been booming in recent years. Therefore, it is likely that the company will debut the Chery Tiggo 8 in Pakistan.
The Tiggo 8 is a D-Segment midsize crossover SUV that rivals the Kia Sorento, the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Toyota Fortuner, the MG RX8, and other midsize SUVs in the same segment.
The Tiggo 8 can be had with two engine options in the international market. One is a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 156 hp and 230 Nm of torque. The other one is a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 197 hp and 290 Nm of torque.
The former is mated to a either 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission, and the latter is only available with a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox.
The Tiggo 8 can be had in multiple trim levels, and the safety and convenience features vary in each trim level. However, the basic features include Keyless Entry and Push Start, Cruise Control, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill-start Assist, driver and passenger airbags, and a modern infotainment system among other features.
The vehicle is already in Pakistan for testing purposes, and its launch date and price are yet to be announced. Regardless, the Tiggo 8 is certainly an interesting prospect for the Pakistani market.
Tiggo 4
The other Chery SUV to arrive in Pakistan for testing is the Tiggo 4, as reported by Car Spirit. This indicates that the company may also showcase the Tiggo 4 at the PAS 2021.
The Tiggo 4 is a subcompact crossover SUV that is pitted against the MG ZS, the Kia Stonic, the Hyundai Kona, the Toyota C-HR, the Honda Vezel, and other SUVs in the same class.
It comes with different engine options in the international market including a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 121 hp and 180 Nm of torque, and a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 145 hp and 210 Nm of torque.
The 2.0 engine can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox, while the 1.5T has the option of either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission.
Like its larger counterpart, the Tiggo 4 also has impressive features including, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill-start Assist, rear parking sensors, TPMS, six airbags, a modern infotainment unit, automatic climate control, and digital driver’s display.
Given that Chery may launch the Tiggo 4 to compete against the Kia Stonic, the MG ZS, and the Proton X50 in Pakistan, it is likely to draw a huge crowd of subcompact crossover SUV enthusiasts at the event.
Chery Arrizo 5
Based on recent reports from the industry that Chery is eyeing the heavy hitters, it is speculated that the company will display the Arrizo 5 in the local compact sedan segment as well.
The Arrizo 5 is a C-Segment compact sedan that contends with the Honda Civic, the Toyota Corolla, and the Hyundai Elantra. It is offered with two engine options: a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 113 hp and 141 Nm of torque, and a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with an output of 145 hp and 210 Nm of torque.
The former can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox, and the latter can be had with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission.
The vehicle is equipped with all the basic features, including six airbags, TPMS, a reverse camera with dynamic guidelines, ABS Brakes, ESP, Hill-start Assist, a modern infotainment unit, and automatic climate control besides other impressive features.
Although the local compact sedan segment is not too hot in terms of popularity, the Chery Arrizo 5 is sure to make a fine addition to the market and garner attention at the PAS due to its striking design.
