MG Announces Outrageous Price Increase for HS SUV

The price hike domino effect is still going strong with multiple automakers announcing increases. As per a recent report from carspiritpk.com, Morris Garages (MG) Pakistan is the latest to do so for its most popular vehicle.

Like others, MG has also announced a three-part price hike whereby:

  • Those who made full payments for November and December 2021 deliveries will have to pay an additional Rs. 200,000.
  • Those who made partial payments for deliveries in the same period as above will have to pay Rs. 500,000 more.
  • Those who made partial payments for deliveries in January 2022 or placed new orders will have to pay a whopping Rs. 850,000 more.

The price revision is as follows:

Amount Full Payment for Nov-Dec 2021 Deliveries (PKR) Partial Payment for Nov-Dec 2021 Deliveries (PKR) Partial Payment for January 2022 Deliveries or New Orders (PKR)
Revised Price (Ex-Factory) 5,949,000 6,249,000 6,599,000
Increase 200,000 500,000 850,000

Although the company is yet to officially announce the price hike for its other vehicles, the report says that the price of MG ZS has also been increased by Rs. 306,000, bringing it up to Rs. 4.44 million.

Like other automakers, the company has cited devaluation of PKR against the US Dollar, increase in freight charges, cost of transportation due to high petrol prices, and high semi-conductor chip costs to a global shortage as reasons for the price surge.

The company has already set up a local assembly plant in Lahore, yet it has only sold Completely Built-Up (CBU) units of HS. There is currently no news on when the company will begin assembling cars locally.

The government is considering increasing import taxes on vehicles to reduce the rising import bill as well as the current account deficit. MG’s inclination towards selling CBUs only will not serve them well if the import tariffs are increased.

  • What a joke that only one local MG car is produced in one year. This is just to show that they have a local plant. According to Auto policy only 100 foreign CBU are allowed to be imported. How come Afridi was allowed to import more than 10,000 MG s? This is the biggest fraud being undertaken by the friend of Imran Khan. Anyway Pakistanis and Establishment are blind and they have to support Imran Khan and his corrupt friends. Nothing is gonna change in Pakistan

    • Not only MG as well KIA and others
Have imported thousands cbu which govt claimed only 600 or 800 cbus
But as for KiA MG Hyundai they alone crossed ten thousand series

      • So where is NAB?. NAB is there to arrest the opposition only?. Meanwhile these groups can do whatever they want to?. We must remember that Afridi is in PTI now and founder of Al Haj Group (Proton) is also an Afridi and his family is active in PTI. Meanwhile Kia Lucky Group is also a big friend of PTI’s Abdur Razzaq Dawood.
Seriously what is going on in Pakistan?. You keep the establishment happy and do whatever corruption and no one will ask any question?. Even ARY group that is biggest importer of Gold and illegal imports is now telling Pakistanis about Patriotism and in the meanwhile they are benefiting from Illegal import businesses?.

  • MG is a fraud… And our public is so naive to fall for it.

Kia Sportage in early 2000 was same.

  • Very good step. These expensive vehicles are not for ordinary folks. One who could spend around 6 million rupees can also easily pay half a million more. No need for showing concern.
