Govt is Working on Structural Reforms to Put Economy on Sustainable Growth Path: Miftah

The federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Miftah Ismail met with Executive Directors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Dr. Wan Farissan Bin Wan Suleiman and Noor Ahmed, at the Finance Division today.

Country Director ADB, Yong Ye; Secretary Finance; and senior officers of the Finance Division were also in attendance.

Minister Ismail welcomed the Executive Directors and said that the ADB has always been a great support for Pakistan in its pursuit of reform agendas and implementation of various development projects. He acknowledged its longstanding partnership and firm commitment as a major development partner in bringing critical reforms in priority areas, including energy, education, fiscal and debt management, and socio-economic development.

The minister gave an overview of the economic challenges the incumbent government has inherited and affirmed that it is working on various structural reform measures to return the economy to an inclusive and sustainable growth path. He also expressed his confidence in overcoming these economic challenges.

The Executive Directors stated that the ADB is committed to supporting the reform agenda in Pakistan’s infrastructure, social and financial sectors. They also reaffirmed its resolve to continue boosting the strengthening of reform programs and the implementation of Pakistan’s development agenda, including fiscal management, building resilience, and boosting the competitiveness and development of the private sector.

Minister Ismail thanked the attendees and the ADB team for their reinforcements and emphasized the government’s firm commitment to the speedy implementation of the ongoing programs.
