Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced to observe a public holiday on the occasion of Iqbal Day. The public holiday on Iqbal Day had been previously suspended for several years.
According to the official notification issued by Secretary to the Prime Minister, Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, the PM has approved the holiday and 9th November shall henceforth be observed as a public holiday.

It is interesting to note here that the public holiday on Iqbal Day was suspended in 2015 during the previous tenure of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).
Following the 2015 decision, a petition was moved to the Lahore High Court (LHC), contending that 9th November should be observed as a public holiday in memory of the national poet.
The citizens have also lauded the decision by the federal government to restore the public holiday on Iqbal Day, stating that the great poet must be commemorated with national reverence.
Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz has also notified a 22-member committee under the leadership of Senator Irfan Siddiqui to develop a detailed program of events, highlighting the life, work, and philosophy of Allama Iqbal during November.
