In an effort to clear the city of encroachments and restore its beauty, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has issued final notices to businesses encroaching on public spaces.
Chief Commissioner Islamabad and CDA Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Randhawa have directed a rigorous operation to tackle the issue head-on, reflecting the administration’s commitment to maintaining the city’s aesthetic appeal.
Under the Chief Commissioner’s special instructions, all markets and commercial centers have received these final notices, specifically targeting restaurants and other businesses that have set up illegal structures or occupied public pathways and sidewalks. The notices, issued by Dr. Sania Hameed Pasha, Director of DMA, appeal to business owners and citizens to cooperate in preserving the city’s charm.
Over the past week, the CDA has already taken significant action by demolishing illegal sheds on CDA land and seizing large amounts of goods that violated open space regulations. These items have been stored in the DMA warehouse, with the operation set to continue on a daily basis. The authorities have made it clear that no one will be allowed to block public pathways or encroach on CDA land.
“The elimination of encroachments has been a long-standing demand of Islamabad’s citizens,” said a CDA spokesperson. “We are committed to addressing this issue promptly and effectively.” The operation is in response to public complaints and aims to ensure that public spaces are accessible and free from unauthorized occupation.
Chief Commissioner Randhawa reiterated his resolve to protect the city’s beauty. “No one will be allowed to spoil the aesthetic appeal of Islamabad,” he stated. He has directed the DMA to continue the operation until all pathways, sidewalks, and corridors in commercial areas, including the Blue Area and other commercial/industrial centers, are cleared of encroachments.
