PTA and FIA Launch New Process to Stop Blasphemous Content Online

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Federal Investigation Agency Cyber Crimes Wing (FIA-Cyber Crimes) have established an expedited process to address blasphemous content online.

According to a public notice from PTA, specialized blasphemy cells have been integrated into FIA cyber-crimes police stations nationwide. These cells are tasked with swiftly handling cases referred by PTA, utilizing advanced technology to track and apprehend individuals responsible for disseminating blasphemous material.

In the notice, the PTA expressed concerns over atheists and miscreants allegedly using social media to undermine the morals and beliefs of the youth.

The agency highlighted that offensive content targeting religious figures, holy texts, and national symbols is being spread in a well-coordinated manner, purportedly as part of a larger conspiracy to destabilize the country and incite civil unrest. PTA emphasized the serious implications of such activities, which are prohibited under Pakistani law.

PTA called on parents to monitor their children’s online activities closely, warning that youngsters might unwittingly become involved in blasphemy. The agency urged parents to ensure their children are not engaging in or propagating such content, which could lead to severe legal consequences.

PTA also stressed the collective responsibility of scholars, lawyers, educators, and society at large to raise awareness about the seriousness of blasphemy.

The notice underscored the importance of public vigilance and reporting offensive content to PTA for swift action. Special blasphemy cells within FIA police stations are dedicated to addressing these cases exclusively, ensuring rapid investigation and punishment. By leveraging advanced technological tools, the cybercrime wing is capable of tracing perpetrators and holding them accountable.
