Samsung has ditched the word “stems” with its latest Galaxy Buds 3 series, opting for a new, blade-like design. These blades allow you to pinch for playback controls and swipe up or down for volume adjustments. The redesigned cases and a suite of AI features round out the upgrades.
The Galaxy Buds 3 Pro elevate style with “Blade Lights.” This customizable light strip runs along the edge of the bud, adding a touch of personalization.
The pricier Galaxy Buds 3 Pro packs a punch in the audio department. They boast 2-way speakers with large 6.1 mm planar tweeters and 10.5 mm dynamic drivers, along with dual amplifiers for enhanced sound quality. The improved SSC codec now supports double the sampling rate for even richer audio.
As expected for a premium bud, the Pro model boasts Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) to block out distractions. ANC helps reduce unwanted noise, while “Siren Detect” and “Voice Detect” automatically let in ambient sound when needed.
The Galaxy Buds 3 Pro takes call quality a step further with the help of machine learning. This clever tech can analyze and improve the sound of incoming voices during calls, even in noisy places. It cleans up the audio from the other end of the call to make it sound clearer.
Another call quality booster is the “Super-Wideband” feature. This lets the Buds transmit your voice at 16kHz, double what standard Bluetooth earbuds can handle. In simpler terms, your voice will sound richer and more natural during calls.
Buds 3 and Pro come with redesigned cases that let you see inside. Battery life is similar, with the case offering the same 515 mAh capacity. The Pro buds hold a slight edge at 53 mAh each, translating to 6 hours of listening with ANC on and 26 hours total with the case (or 7 hours/30 hours without ANC).
The Galaxy Buds 3 is the lighter option on your wallet. They sport a simpler design with 11 mm drivers and offer features like adjustable noise cancellation and sound that adapts to your surroundings. This open design makes them comfy for long listening sessions, though it won’t block out as much noise as the canal-style Buds 3 Pro.
The Buds 3 offer 5 hours of listening with ANC on and 24 hours total with the case (or 6 hours/30 hours without ANC) thanks to their slightly smaller 48mAh batteries in each bud.
Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro offer smart features powered by Samsung AI. One such feature is “Interpreter mode.” This lets you use your phone and earbuds in “Listening mode” to hear a lecture in a foreign language and receive a live translation into your language through the buds.
In terms of durability, both versions of the Buds 3 have the same IP57 dust and water resistance rating. This is a significant upgrade from the Buds 2 (IPX2) and Buds 2 Pro (IPX7), but it’s important to note that this rating only applies to the earbuds themselves, not the charging case.
Price-wise, the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro comes in at $250, while the standard Buds 3 costs $180. This is a $30 jump compared to their Buds 2 predecessors.
