A significant number of fake online accounts impersonating the Sindh police have been exposed. The Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) is now taking action to identify those behind this scheme.
These impersonations spanned various platforms, including social media and messaging apps. 97 fake accounts were discovered, including five fake websites, 21 fake WhatsApp groups, 37 fake Facebook accounts, seven fake Twitter accounts, 14 fake TikTok accounts, and 13 fake Instagram accounts.
To combat this deception, the IGP has taken decisive action. Letters were sent to both the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the FIA Karachi South director, requesting their immediate intervention to shut down these fake accounts. This move aims to protect the public from misinformation and potential scams.
In letters to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Sindh’s Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon stressed that these fake pages, accounts, and groups mislead the public.
He emphasized that these imposters have no official connection to the Sindh police and do not represent the department in any way. Memon urged the FIA to take swift action by removing these unauthorized accounts from platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and others.
He further requested the FIA to keep the Sindh police informed about the takedown process so they could pursue legal action against those responsible for this deception.
