The Punjab government has introduced a new initiative to curb traffic violations and reduce smoke emissions using artificial intelligence (AI). Citizens violating traffic regulations will now receive electronic fines with proof and hefty fines.
This approach involves modern electronic traffic policing to monitor and address smoke-emitting vehicles. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has instructed transport authorities to apprehend vehicles producing excessive smoke and issue electronic fines through the Punjab Safe City Cameras.
The AI, utilized by these modern cameras, measures the smoke emissions from various vehicles, including trucks, buses, cars, wagons, motorcycles, and auto-rickshaws. The Lahore Traffic Police have already issued numerous tickets for vehicles found to be emitting excessive smoke. These fines are accompanied by photographic and video evidence of the violation, providing clear proof of the infraction.
A comprehensive campaign has been launched in Lahore, capturing images and videos of smoke-emitting vehicles. Each electronic ticket includes a visual record of the offending vehicle, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Senior Minister Punjab, Maryam Aurangzeb, emphasized that this initiative not only enforces traffic regulations but also aims to protect the environment.
