In a significant development for international cricket, Mirwais Ashraf, Chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), and CEO Naseeb Khan attended the International Cricket Council (ICC) annual Board Meeting in Colombo.
During the event, they held a crucial meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, where they affirmed Afghanistan’s participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
The tournament, scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan in February and March, will mark Afghanistan’s debut in the prestigious competition. The ACB officials dismissed circulating rumors about Afghanistan potentially skipping the event, underscoring their eagerness to compete.
In addition to these discussions, PCB Chairman Naqvi also had a cordial conversation with BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, although no formal talks on bilateral series were initiated. This interaction hints at improving relations between the cricket boards of Pakistan and India.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board also disclosed plans to possibly organize a Youth Tri-Series involving Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance youth cricket development.
Furthermore, the ACB’s press release highlighted discussions about A team tours to Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, with specifics on dates and venues to be announced later.
The statement in the press release read, “The discussions also included A team tours to Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, and the possibility of a Youth Tri-Series against Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, with the dates and venues to be confirmed.”
These developments signify a promising future for Afghanistan’s cricketing journey on the international stage.
