The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has unveiled major policy changes aimed at improving the national cricket team’s performance.
Notably, respected coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie, along with former Test players Mohammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq, and the current captains of the white-ball and red-ball teams, will join the Pakistan cricket selection committee.
Additionally, every player will now be required to pass a thorough fitness evaluation every three months. Participation in domestic cricket is now compulsory, and the selection committee will closely monitor this requirement.
Efforts are being made to enhance high-performance centers across the country to support local cricket development. New facilities will be created in Islamabad and Peshawar, with Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie leading these projects.
The NCA intends to assign specialized coaches for the Shaheens and Under-19 teams and hold frequent tournaments to develop new talent. Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq, Usman Wahla, and Nadeem Khan will be responsible for assessing domestic contracts to guarantee fair chances for players at all levels.
To address concerns about player incentives, the Chief Selector has decided to maintain the current central contract amounts. Instead, they will introduce a new one-year contract format that assesses players’ performance and fitness after every quarterly cycle of the calendar year.
Strict rules have been set for granting No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to players for league participation. Players must meet high fitness and performance standards to qualify for NOCs, ensuring top-quality representation in foreign leagues.
