Despite orders from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, chicken prices continue to skyrocket across Punjab. The cost of chicken meat in Lahore has only slightly decreased, dropping by Rs6 to a new rate of Rs599 per kilogram.
Over the past month, chicken prices have surged by Rs222 per kg, rising from Rs377 on June 25 to the current rate of Rs599.
In Multan, the price of chicken has surged dramatically within a week, climbing from Rs450 to Rs560 per kg. The increase is attributed to the higher costs of feed and fuel, making chicken increasingly unaffordable for the average consumer. Residents are calling for measures to bring down the price of chicken, as the current rates are stretching household budgets.
The situation in Faisalabad is similar, where the local administration has struggled to enforce the official chicken price. Despite the Chief Minister’s notice, chicken prices have only seen a minor decrease of Rs5, with the market rate still at Rs630 per kg compared to the official rate of Rs600 per kg. Citizens in Faisalabad are also demanding stricter enforcement of official prices to counter the rampant “chicken mafia” controlling the market.
In Sialkot, chicken meat is being sold at prices ranging from Rs680 to Rs700 per kg, significantly higher than the official rate of Rs599 per kg. The high prices have put chicken meat out of reach for many common people.
The rising prices across Punjab have led to widespread frustration among consumers, who are urging the government to implement effective measures to control the market and make chicken affordable again.

Chief Minister is just ordering to decrease the chicken meat rate without looking at the fact that the broiler farmers’ cost has soared up with the higher cost of the day old chick, feed, fuel, electricity bills etc. The broiler farmers have got the loss of the million rupees when the govt was boasting that they had got the chicken rates decreased.

The broiler farmers got the loss of the million rupees when the govt was boasting that they had got the chicken rates decreased.
If such unplanned and irrational policies of the punjab government continue, the time is not far when the broiler farming would be shrunk and the rates of the chicken meat would be out of control.
