The government of Pakistan has completed the trial phase for installing a country-wide firewall to monitor and control social media.
Following successful results, the government is now moving forward with the purchase of the new firewall system, sources in the Ministry of Interior told ProPakistani.
During the trial, the firewall effectively blocked pictures, voice recordings, and video downloads on social media platforms. It reduced mobile internet service speeds and checked for mobile data leaks.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has informed all mobile companies to clear the installation process.
The government plans to install the firewall on all internet service providers, allowing for deep packet inspection to filter social media data and block content at the IP level. The federal government wants to control the dissemination of any kind of content, with costs shared between the government and ISPs.
Sources said PTA will oversee the firewall’s installation.
Previously, Pakistan acquired a web monitoring system from a Canadian firm in 2018, which remains in use and is currently being upgraded. The new firewall system is expected to function similarly to China’s, using Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) to detect and block sensitive content based on keywords.

Freedom of speech and having sense of security is a key to prosperity and sole responsibility of govt. Blocking the inappropriate post is another thing but remain under constant surveillance is another kind of jail.
Pakistan is making it’s citizens life harder and harder day by day. The result of such actions will definitely be insurgency.

I really liked the idea when I first heard about the firewalls, and controlling the media ohh I mean the social media, the reason is simple, now a days everyone is using smart phone ofcourse it easy and cheap to connect the world, but on other hand some ppl start miss using it in way to brainwash those who can’t even spell there nmae, as you see, and it’s now the best time to practice how to keep us and families safe by using that stuffs that are known for there encryption and even countries are banning it since they can’t inspect it
