Pakistan’s Anum Uzair has completed the summit of Mount Broad Peak successfully, the world’s 12th-highest mountain, standing at an imposing 8,051 meters.
Reaching the summit at precisely 11:30 AM today, Anum has etched her name in historybooks, as only the second Pakistani woman to conquer this formidable peak, following in the footsteps of Naila Kiani.
Anum’s ascent of Broad Peak marks a significant milestone in her career, being her second successful summit of an “8000er”, a term used to denote mountains exceeding 8,000 meters in height.
Her achievement not only showcases her exceptional skill and determination but also highlights the growing presence of Pakistani women in the traditionally male-dominated field of high-altitude mountaineering.
On September 24, 2023, Anum Uzair and her husband Ahmed Uzair became the first Pakistani couple to summit the world’s eighth-highest peak Mount Manaslu, which is 8,163 meters above sea level in Nepal.
The journey to the summit of Mount Broad Peak is fraught with peril, requiring climbers to navigate treacherous ice and rock faces, unpredictable weather conditions, and the physical and mental toll of extreme altitude.
In a statement following her summit, Anum expressed gratitude for the support of her team and the encouragement from well-wishers back home.
Anum Uzair’s achievement is a source of national pride and inspiration, encouraging more Pakistani women to pursue their dreams against the odds.
Her success on Broad Peak not only celebrates individual accomplishment but also represents a significant stride for gender equality in the realm of adventure sports.
