The Sindh Home Department announced on Friday that the ban on the issuance of arms licenses at Deputy Commissioners’ offices across the province will be lifted, effective August 1, 2024.
“With the approval of the Minister for Home, Law, Parliamentary Affairs, and Criminal Prosecution Sindh, the ban on the issuance of arms licenses will be lifted starting August 1 at Deputy Commissioner’s offices across the province, by the existing quota/ceiling mentioned in Rule 4.1 of the Sindh Arms Rule 2018,” stated a notification issued.
The notification was issued by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, Muhammad Iqbal Memon.
The ban was initially imposed by the caretaker government led by Chief Minister Maqbool Baqar in October 2023.
The Interior Secretary issued the initial notification under the direction of caretaker Chief Minister Maqbool Baqar, stating that the ban would apply to the issuance of arms licenses from the district commissioner offices and the interior ministry.
