Milk retailers in Karachi have reported a substantial 40% decrease in milk production, which they attribute to the deaths of livestock caused by the recent severe heatwave. This decline has created a challenging situation for the milk supply chain. According to 24NewsHD TV channel, Waheed Gaddi, the spokesperson for the milk retailers, has called on government authorities to take immediate action to ensure a stable supply of milk.
Gaddi pointed out that the reduction in milk production has forced retailers to purchase milk at significantly higher prices from the open market, further straining their operations and affecting consumers. To address the crisis, retailers have formally notified the Karachi Commissioner and the Chief Minister about the severity of the situation through an official letter.
This letter highlights the critical impact of the heatwave on livestock and the consequent disruption to milk supply, urging the authorities to implement measures to stabilize the market and support the affected retailers.
