A meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has led to a decision to remove illegal intercity bus stands within the city, which will be implemented in the next two weeks.
The bus stands set for removal include those at Cantt, MA Jinnah Road, Taj Complex, and Al-Karam Square. These locations have been causing inconvenience to motorists and contributing to traffic jams. To enforce the ban, the Karachi administration has planned a joint operation involving Deputy Commissioners, District Police, and Traffic Police.
To accommodate passengers a shuttle service will be provided, transporting them from the removed bus stand locations to the Karachi Bus Terminal on Super Highway. The new policy specifies that intercity buses will only be allowed to pick up passengers from the designated terminal, ensuring smoother traffic management in the city.
Additionally, police personnel will be stationed at the former bus stand locations to enforce the new regulations.
The Secretary of Transport, Asad Zamin, DIG Traffic Ahmed Nawaz, and Additional Commissioner Karachi-1 Ghulam Mehdi, PTA and RTA Secretaries, participated in the meeting. Deputy Commissioners attended the discussion via video link.
