Upper Chitral Schools Closed Temporarily Due to Floods

Educational institutions in Upper Chitral have been closed temporarily due to recent floods that have damaged bridges and disrupted communication. The Deputy Commissioner of Upper Chitral has issued a notification announcing the closure.

The provincial government has announced a closure for all educational institutions in Upper Chitral from August 1 to August 3, 2024, due to severe flooding. This applies to both government and private schools and colleges in the region.

Yesterday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced that heavy monsoon rains are likely across the country from August 1 to 6, with occasional breaks.

Earlier today, Lahore recorded 350 millimeters of rainfall in just three hours, breaking a 44-year-old record. Rainfall in Lahore caused significant disruptions to the electricity supply, with around 288 feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) tripping.

LESCO has urged consumers to be patient as teams work to restore power. Areas affected by the heavy downpour included Mall Road, Ferozepur Road, Model Town, Faisal Town, Lakshmi Chowk, and Anarkali.
