The Sindh government and Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has initiated a comprehensive digitization and automation project for the transport department and commercial vehicle sectors. This initiative aims to enhance efficiency, transparency, and safety within the system.
The project encompasses the digitization of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA), Provincial Transport Authority (PTA), Regional Transport Authority (RTA), and Trans Karachi. This process has already begun, as reported during a meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon in Karachi.
During the meeting, Minister Memon received an in-depth briefing on the progress and plans for the digitisation and automation efforts. He highlighted that the integration of the PTA under a unified software system would streamline the issuance of inter-provincial route permits, making the process more efficient and user-friendly.
One of the key features of the new system is the online application and renewal process for route permits. This advancement will simplify the procedures for transporters, enabling them to apply for and renew route permits, fitness certificates, and body makers’ permits online. The minister emphasized that this digital transformation would significantly reduce the administrative burden and enhance the overall efficiency of the department.
Minister Memon also announced the establishment of a public complaint center, where all relevant information will be collected and managed within the secretariat. He directed officials to submit fortnightly progress reports on the digitization and automation system to ensure timely updates and continuous improvement.
He further noted that the adoption of modern technology would not only increase revenue but also bring transparency to the transport system. In the initial phase, the vehicle fitness certificate system will go online, which is expected to reduce accidents and improve passenger safety.

Sindh Government works in snail’s pace. Nobody gets excited reading such news. Understandable. When corruption is rampant and delays are deliberate who would believe positive approach for the betterment is in the offing.
