The Punjab Interior Department has transferred the authority to issue arms licenses to Deputy Commissioners, according to a recent notification. This transfer of powers has been carried out under the Punjab Arms Rules 2023.
The responsibility for managing individual arms licenses, including changes in weapon categories, bore alterations, and ammunition increases, has now been assigned to the DS (Judicial) or the relevant Deputy Commissioners.
Furthermore, all powers related to issuing duplicate arms licenses have also been transferred to Deputy Commissioners.
Earlier this year, the provincial government had launched the Punjab arms license management system. This portal will facilitate the online issuance and renewal of arms licenses and allow the transfer of licenses to another person.
