Over the past five years, the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) has inducted 1,090 individuals into the Central Superior Services (CSS), with women making up 410 of these inductions.
This accounts for 40 percent of the total inductions, a significant increase from three decades ago when women comprised less than three percent of civil service entrants.
As many civil servants reach Grades 20 and 21 by retirement, the future will see more women serving as ambassadors, secretaries, and senior positions within the police and other civil services of Pakistan.
Data from the past five years shows that Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu, and Kashmir have successfully utilized all women’s seats in the Pakistan Civil Services. In contrast, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have consistently underutilized these seats. In the Foreign Service of Pakistan, 82 officers were inducted, with 52 male and 30 female officers. In the Police Services of Pakistan, 147 officers were inducted, of which only 34 were women. The Pakistan Administrative Services saw 197 inductions, with 63 being women, according to data available with The News.
In Sindh, 123 seats for women remained unallocated over the past five years, while in Balochistan, 65 seats, and in KP, 28 seats remained unfilled. A fixed quota of 10 percent for the employment of women in Federal Government Services, including CSS posts, was established in 2007.
