Islamabad and Rawalpindi on High Alert After Heavy Rainfall

Heavy rains in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have disrupted daily life, flooding roads and causing severe traffic congestion across both cities. Low-lying areas are experiencing significant water intrusion, further compounding the situation.

The heavy rains have caused major disruptions, with residents struggling to deal with the effects. Key roads in Islamabad are flooded, leading to severe traffic jams and chaos.

Major thoroughfares are submerged, resulting in long delays and forcing drivers to seek alternative routes.

In several low-lying areas, the situation is worse. Rainwater has flooded homes, damaging property and leaving residents trapped. These neighborhoods are facing power outages and water shortages, exacerbating the challenges for the local community.

Rawalpindi is also facing severe conditions leading to a rain emergency and placing the administration on high alert. In Khyban-e-Sir Syed, homes have been inundated with rainwater, forcing residents to evacuate and find temporary shelter.

The water level in Nullah Leh is rising, raising concerns about potential flooding. At Katarian, the water has reached 22.7 feet. Authorities have begun evacuating residents from nearby areas. According to the Managing Director of WASA, heavy machinery has been deployed to address the situation in the low-lying areas.

Local authorities advise residents to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel while rescue teams work to clear roads and provide assistance. The Meteorological Department has predicted additional rain which may lead to further flooding and disruptions.
