Punjab University Fails to Pay Salaries to Teachers and Staff Members

The University of the Punjab is grappling with a severe financial crisis, resulting in an unprecedented delay in the payment of salaries to hundreds of its teachers and officers, reported a TV channel on Thursday.

For the first time in the university’s history, approximately 1,100 staff members, including teachers and officers above grade 16, have not received their salaries for July. This significant delay has raised concerns and anxiety among the affected employees.

Traditionally, the university ensures that salaries are disbursed by the 30th of each month. However, due to ongoing financial difficulties, the university has been unable to meet this deadline. As of August 8, the salaries for July have still not been issued, leaving many staff members in a difficult financial position.

The delay in salary payments has highlighted the deepening financial issues within one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious educational institutions. Staff members are reportedly growing increasingly concerned about the university’s ability to manage its finances and meet its obligations moving forward. The situation has sparked discussions among employees, with some expressing frustration and uncertainty about the future.

This financial strain on the University of the Punjab underscores broader challenges faced by public sector universities in managing their resources amid rising operational costs and budgetary constraints. The situation calls for urgent intervention to resolve the crisis and ensure that the university’s staff are compensated for their work.
