Google Pixel Watch 3 Now Comes in Two Sizes With UWB Tech

Google has officially unveiled its latest smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 3, maintaining its familiar design while introducing significant changes to the product line. At first glance, the new model might be mistaken for its predecessor, the Pixel Watch 2. However, a closer look reveals a notable difference: consumers can now choose between two sizes, 41mm and 45mm.

It has the same Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 SoC as before alongside the same sensors for health and fitness tracking such as  HR monitor, ECG readings, SpO2, skin thermometer, and more.

Marking an industry-first for Android wearables, the Pixel Watch 3 incorporates Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology. This addition enhances the device’s functionality, simplifying tasks such as unlocking your smartphone or locating the watch itself through Google’s Find My Device service. Moreover, for compatible vehicles, the Pixel Watch 3 can serve as a digital key, allowing users to unlock their cars with ease.

Google has made notable improvements to the Pixel Watch 3’s display technology. Both the 41mm and 45mm models now feature screens that can reach an impressive 2,000 nits of peak brightness. This represents a significant enhancement over the previous year’s Pixel Watch 2, which maxed out at 1,000 nits.

When it comes to battery life, Google has taken different approaches for the two sizes. The smaller 41mm version retains the same 310 mAh battery as its predecessor. In contrast, the larger 45mm model is equipped with a more substantial 420 mAh power cell. Despite these differences, Google maintains that both watches will offer 24 hours of use between charges, even with the always-on display feature activated. This battery life claim mirrors that of last year’s Pixel Watch 2.

Google also says that the charging speed has been improved by 20%.

Google has highlighted several new features for the Pixel Watch 3, enhancing its functionality across various domains. The company touts improved running tracking capabilities and the ability to control a Pixel phone’s camera directly from the watch. Users can now access their Nest Cam or Nest Doorbell feeds on their wrist, and navigate using Google Maps even without an internet connection.

In the realm of health tracking, Google has introduced a novel “readiness score” feature. This tool evaluates the user’s recovery status, providing guidance on whether they’re prepared for their next workout or if additional rest is advisable.

Google has unveiled a range of color options for the new Pixel Watch 3, catering to diverse aesthetic preferences. Both the 41mm and 45mm models are available in two common configurations: a Matte Black Aluminum case paired with an Obsidian strap, and a Polished Silver Aluminum case complemented by a Porcelain strap.

The color choices diverge for the third option, depending on the watch size. The smaller 41mm variant offers a Champagne Gold Aluminum finish, which comes with a Hazel band. In contrast, the larger 45mm model features a Matte Hazel Aluminum case, also accompanied by a Hazel band.

Regarding pricing, Google has set the cost for the 41mm Pixel Watch 3 with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi at $349. The larger 45mm model in the same configuration will retail for $399. For those desiring LTE connectivity, an additional $100 will be added to the base price of either size variant.
