In Sargodha, the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) has set up a dedicated counter for transgender individuals, which will be operational once a week.
Deputy Director Raazia Yasmin announced that a recent survey revealed 3,800 transgender individuals in the district who are expected to be registered under the program.
The new counters, established at the Tehsil level in Sillanwali, Sahiwal, Kotmomin, Bhera, Bhulwal, and Sargodha, will be open on Saturdays to facilitate registration and support.
Earlier, Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), announced a new banking system designed to enhance the efficiency of fund disbursement to eligible women.
In a media statement, she explained that the system would collaborate with six banks to reduce human intervention and ensure timely payments to beneficiaries. Khalid highlighted that BISP’s transparency has been acknowledged by international bodies such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
Under this system, approximately 9.3 million deserving families are currently receiving support.
