High Court Questions LDA on Traffic and Environment

The Lahore High Court on Friday criticized the poor quality of tire killers installed on city roads, highlighting the risk of accidents due to substandard installations.

During a hearing on smog-related petitions, Justice Shahid Karim also expressed frustration over the government’s failure to provide school buses for children.

A lawyer representing the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) informed the court that 500 concrete barriers had been given to the traffic police to help manage traffic in the city.

The judge directed the LDA to confirm with the chief traffic officer how these barriers were being used, ensuring they were not placed in front of the IG office.

He also suggested that the senior minister of Punjab should meet with judicial commission members for a briefing on their work.

Justice Karim appreciated the government’s initiative to replace petrol bikes with electric bikes following court orders, acknowledging the positive impact.

The judge mentioned that the judicial commission had issued decisions on keeping dogs and cats at Tollinton Market.

He also emphasized the need for government policies to preserve water used for ablution in mosques.

Additionally, the judge instructed the LDA to ensure that greenbelts are lower than road levels to prevent rainwater from accumulating on the roads.

The hearing was adjourned until next Friday.
