In recognition of the annual urs of Hazrat Ali Hajveri, or Data Ganj Bakhsh, the Lahore High Court has announced a holiday for all courts on August 26. This decision was made with the approval of Acting Chief Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh.
The official notification states that all sessions and civil courts in Lahore will be closed on August 26 to observe the Urs of Hazrat Ali Hajveri, also known as Data Ganj Bakhsh. This closure is to support the annual commemoration of this highly revered saint in Pakistan.
The Urs of Hazrat Ali Hajveri is a major religious event attracting thousands of devotees to Lahore annually, who come to honor the saint renowned for his spiritual teachings. The court closures on August 26 aim to enable people to fully participate in the observance without disruptions.
Previously, the Sindh government announced a public holiday on Aug 20 to observe the Urs of revered Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. A notification has been issued by the chief secretary.
As per the notification, all government offices, semi-government offices, schools, colleges, and universities will be closed on this day, though essential services will remain operational.
