New Safety Measures Against Monkeypox Introduced at Karachi Airport

In light of the increasing monkeypox threat, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has introduced new safety measures for international airlines arriving at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport.

CAA’s directives require airlines to distribute face masks to all passengers and mandate that both international airline staff and ground handling personnel wear masks at all times.

The authority has also strongly advised the use of hand sanitizers by both airport staff and passengers. Furthermore, it is required that all luggage from international arrivals be thoroughly disinfected.

CAA has directed that passengers showing symptoms of monkeypox be isolated, following the guidelines established by Border Health Services.

In addition to the new protocols, Karachi Airport has ramped up its health screening procedures. Medical examinations have been conducted for passengers from over 22 flights, with no monkeypox cases reported to date.

Dr. Zafar Mehdi, the focal person for the Sindh Health Department, confirmed that more than 20 doctors and paramedical staff are stationed at the airport 24/7. Special rooms have been established to examine any passengers suspected of carrying the virus, ensuring comprehensive precautions are taken to safeguard public health.
