ICC Relocates Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 From Bangladesh to U.A.E

The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 has been relocated from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday.

Initially scheduled to take place in Bangladesh, the tournament will now be held in Dubai and Sharjah from October 3 to 20, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) retaining hosting rights despite the change in venue.

The decision to move the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 was influenced by travel advisories issued by several governments, making it unfeasible to host the event in Bangladesh.

The country is currently experiencing political instability, including the recent resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which further complicated the situation.

“It’s unfortunate that the Women’s T20 World Cup won’t be held in Bangladesh, but we understand the circumstances,” said ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice.

He acknowledged the efforts of the BCB in attempting to keep the event in Bangladesh and expressed optimism about hosting an ICC event in the country in the near future.

The Emirates Cricket Board stepped in to host the tournament, with support offers from Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, both of which are slated to host ICC events in 2026.

The UAE, which has hosted several significant cricket events in recent years, including the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, is now poised to welcome the world’s top women cricketers for this prestigious tournament.
