Millions of Medical Gloves Missing in Major KP Corruption Scandal

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a serious issue has surfaced involving the Health Department’s procurement of medical gloves. Official records show that gloves worth Rs. 280 million, intended for Bajaur and North Waziristan, are unaccounted for from the District Health Officer (DHO) stores.

Purchased at a total cost of Rs. 638.3 million, the missing items have raised significant concerns and investigations are now underway to address the discrepancies and identify those responsible.

The Directorate General of Health Services processed payments for medical gloves, including Rs. 135.6 million for 6 million units intended for the District Health Office in Peshawar. Despite these payments, the storekeeper at the DHO Peshawar has reported that no gloves have been received.

Furthermore, gloves worth Rs. 67.8 million intended for Bajaur under the Top-Up Programme are missing from the DHO Bajaur’s inventory, with 3 million gloves unaccounted for. In North Waziristan, Rs. 434.8 million worth of gloves were purchased, but 19 million gloves are unrecorded.

Health Minister Qasim Ali Shah announced a major investigation into the missing medical gloves, pledging to uncover any corruption during the caretaker government’s term.
