The finals of the IMMAF Asian Championships concluded in Lahore yesterday, marking an end to an International Combat week which started with BRAVE CF 85. Pakistan had a respectable showing as a host with 2 golds, 4 silvers and 6 bronze medals across the event.
Bano Butt made an exemplary start to the final day of the IMMAF Asian championships by securing Pakistan’s first gold medal of the event in the senior women’s atomweight division by beating Kazakhstan’s Gulnaz Abdrakhmanova. Eman Khan gave Pakistan its second gold, this time in the senior women’s flyweight division, with a win over Dinara Ayapova, from Kazakhstan.
Kazakh fighter Adel Makhametova would deny Pakistan a third gold as she emerged victorious over Bushra Ahmad in the senior women’s bantamweight division. Until then, Ahmad had been the only Asian opponent that Adel had not been able to finish in a fight across her career.
Pakistan’s other silver medalists were Shahab Ali, Zeeshan Akbar and Abdul Manan across the senior men’s lightweight division, junior men’s bantamweight division and junior men’s flyweight division.
In addition, Bushra Akhtar, Zulqarnain Khan, Asghar Khan, Abdul Sami, Taimur Chishty and Muhammad Aroz Saleem Baig secured bronze across the senior women’s strawweight division, senior men’s middleweight division, senior men’s flyweight division, junior men’s middleweight division, junior men’s welterweight division and junior men’s featherweight division respectively.
