FBR Likely to Miss August Tax Collection Target

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is likely to miss August 2024 revenue collection targets.

Sources told ProPakistani that Chairman FBR Rashid Langrial on Sunday held a Video Link Conference (VLC) with all Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue (IR) and Commissioners IR to deliberate the strategy to achieve August 2024 Revenue Targets and Quality of Assessment Work.

Sources said that FBR is facing over Rs. 50 billion revenue shortfall in the current month of August due to a number of reasons including transfer/posting of IRS and Customs officers.

Sources further said that Commissioner IR also informed Langrial about the major revenue spinners. All the Commissioners IR briefed the Chairman FBR on tax targets vis-a-vis tax collection so far during this month.

The tax officials are expecting a major transfer/posting in the first week of September as chairman FBR has told his confidence to prepare lists in this regard.

Sources also said that the FBR chief will also replace member IR operations, Member Administration, and Information Technology.

It is pertinent to note that Chairman FBR had posted Hamid Attique Sarwar as new Member IR policy and sources close to chairman told ProPakistani that Rashid Langrial will run the affairs of tax departments on the advice of Member IR policy Hamid Attique Sarwar due to latter one’ expertise on tax affairs.

Sources said that Rashid Langrial is seeking the Prime Minister office for transfer/posting of Customs officers on key positions.
