The Punjab government has offered a Rs. 10 million bounty for the capture of notorious Katcha dacoits after 12 police personnel were killed in Rahim Yar Khan by the gang.
In response to the announcement, the infamous dacoit Shahid Lund called a government hotline. Lund, a well-known criminal contacted Interior officials and recorded the conversation, which later surfaced on social media.
During the call, Shahid Lund questioned why his name appeared on the wanted criminals list and demanded its removal. Furthermore, he argued that the actual perpetrators of the police attack were not on the wanted list and questioned why he had the highest bounty on his head.
He also criticized the bounty system, questioning why such large amounts of money weren’t being used to aid the poor instead. The Home Department’s representative explained that they were acting under orders from higher authorities and were tasked with gathering information on the listed individuals.
The Home Department official promised Shahid that his concerns would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities. He wrapped up the conversation by requesting a review and correction of the wanted criminals list.
In an interview with a national daily, a Home Department official clarified that the bounties were not specifically for those involved in the Machka incident, but rather for criminals with a notorious reputation.
