Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja has voiced his discontent with the national cricket team’s performance following their defeat to Bangladesh in the first Test match in Rawalpindi.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ramiz Raja delivered a scathing critique of both the team’s strategy and execution, particularly criticizing the decision to field five fast bowlers without including a spinner.
Raja expressed particular concern over Shan Masood’s captaincy, noting the team’s ongoing losing streak. He emphasized that while challenges in Australian conditions were understandable, losing at home to a team like Bangladesh highlighted serious issues in reading the conditions correctly.
“Shan Masood is currently on a losing streak. You are now losing in home conditions, against a team like Bangladesh, because you did not read the conditions well,” Raja remarked.
He was equally critical of the batting and bowling units, stating, “Neither did the batters apply themselves, and the bowlers were horrendous. Masood needs to improve his batting and demonstrate a better understanding of the game.”
Raja warned that Masood’s position in the team could be at risk if his performance doesn’t improve. “Losing makes a huge dent in the team’s morale. A series loss would mean tension in the dressing room, and there will be a lot of criticism,” he added.
Highlighting a deeper issue, Raja pointed out that Pakistan’s reliance on fast bowlers backfired, attributing the decline in their effectiveness to a confidence crisis that began during the Asia Cup.
He noted a worrying drop in the speed and skill of Pakistan’s pacers, contrasting them unfavorably with Bangladesh’s more penetrative bowlers during the Rawalpindi Test.
