The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has approved an increase of 475 MBBS seats in Punjab’s government medical colleges, expanding admission opportunities for students seeking medical education in the province.
With the approval, the number of MBBS seats in Punjab’s government medical colleges has increased from 3,476 to 3,951. The total number of seats in Punjab’s government medical and dental colleges has also risen to 4,241.
The approval comes weeks after the Punjab Health Department urged the PMDC to resolve the long pending matter before the start of the new academic session.
In June, the department wrote to the PMDC, requesting the council to expedite approval of the additional seats. The letter stated that the Punjab government had originally submitted a formal request on August 21, 2025, seeking an increase of 475 MBBS seats in public sector medical colleges.
The proposal was later placed before the PMDC Council for consideration. Following the council’s approval, government medical colleges across Punjab will now admit students against the expanded number of seats from the upcoming academic session.
