Standard Chartered Pakistan Posts Record Profit in H1 2024

Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited, announced its H1 2024 Results today. The Bank’s Profit before tax grew 29 percent to Rs. 49.3 billion. Meanwhile, the profit after tax increased by 14 percent to Rs. 21.4 billion during the period in review.

Overall revenue growth was 24 percent, whereas client revenue increased by 23 percent year on year with positive contributions from all segments.

While operating expenses increased 22 percent from the comparative period in line with inflation, the bank continues to lead the industry with the lowest cost-to-income ratio of 18 percent.

Moreover, lower impairments as a result of a prudent risk approach coupled with recoveries of bad debts led to a net release of Rs. 1.8 billion in H1 2024 compared to a net release of Rs. 12 million in the comparative period.

On the liabilities side, the Bank’s total deposits stand at Rs. 817 billion; up by Rs. 97 billion, whereas current accounts registered a healthy growth of Rs. 36 billion (up 10 percent) since the start of the year and comprise 49 percent of the deposit base. On the assets side, net advances were lower by Rs. 12 billion (5 percent) since the start of this year.

Commenting on the results, Rehan Shaikh – Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited said:

Our pivot to digital continues based on adopting best practices, leveraging the Group expertise and incorporating feedback of our clients in our offerings. He added, “The external environment remains challenging; however, we remain fully committed to managing our risks, capital, and liquidity effectively, bringing industry-leading services and solutions for our clients and playing our part in the growth story of Pakistan.”

With a strong Return on Equity (ROE) of 44 percent for the period and a Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) of 20 percent, the Bank remains well-positioned for future growth. On the back of a strong performance, the Board of Directors was pleased to announce an interim cash dividend of 20.0 percent (Rs. 2.00/- per share) in respect of the six-month period ended June 30, 2024. This is in addition to the 15.0 percent (Rs. 1.50/- per share) interim cash dividend announced/paid during the period.


  • It deserves it. The best bank in pk. Period. Especially if u rely on online banking. The restof the local banks are straight pathetic in comparison. This is coming from someone who has accounts in almost all banks.

      Ever since SCB went on a cost cutting rampage, their service has gone down the drain. Customer support over the phone and in the branch is basically non-existent and their response to everything is ‘Sir use the mobile app for this’.

      That would be acceptable if there weren’t waiting times for something as simple as generating an account statement which used to be printed immediately at the branch, but now they refuse and insist you order it from the app instead which takes 24 hours just to send one PDF.

      The so-called relationship managers have no influence anymore and do not provide any assistance to the customer at all.

      If SCB wants to become a digital bank, then they should advertise themselves as such and close whatever little branches they have left.

      Quite disappointing but post-COVID SCB is just terrible. Not worth banking with at all.

  • SCB is the only bank in the country that take care of their financial needs and also care for the comfort of it’s customers in conducting financial transactions, like parking facilities, courteous banking officers that help customers, special counters for senior citizen, fool proof security arrangements in conducting business transactions.
    It heartening to note that bank is earning handsome profit. We have the satisfaction that SCB the oldest bank of the country ( sub continent) will stay in Pakistan when others are taking their businesses away.

  • SCB is no more good bank. No branches, no better customer service, not good online banking system. Don’t know how they claim scb is the best. What a joke
