PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi Set to Assume Yet Another Role in Cricket

In the wake of Jay Shah’s unopposed election as the next chairperson of the International Cricket Council (ICC), reports have surfaced indicating that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi is emerging as the leading candidate to assume the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

This position is currently held by Shah, but his new role with the ICC will necessitate his departure from the ACC as well as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), in compliance with the council’s policies aimed at preventing conflicts of interest.

As Shah transitions to his new role at the ICC, the ACC will need to appoint a new president, and Naqvi appears to be the strongest contender. According to sources in Indian media, the ACC is expected to finalize Naqvi’s appointment as president for a two-year term during their upcoming meeting later this year.

Once Shah steps down, Naqvi is poised to take over the leadership of the ACC, which plays a crucial role in governing cricket across Asia.

Meanwhile, Jay Shah has been announced as the new ICC chairman and will assume his responsibility in December. It is believed that Shah’s main aim as the chairperson will be expand the game further and successfully integrate cricket in the Olympics.

Adding to this, his responsibility will be to ensure that the associate nations get the required facilities to close the gap on the Test playing nations.

As for Mohsin Naqvi, his anticipated presidency of the ACC will be closely watched, particularly as the council continues to navigate the complex dynamics of cricket in Asia.
