The Sindh government has unveiled plans for an expressway linking Karachi Port to Jam Sadiq Bridge, providing direct access to the M9 Motorway. This project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and boost connectivity in the area.
The plan was approved during the 45th meeting of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Board chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Monday. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah instructed the Local Government Department to finalize plans for a new expressway, with the name to be determined later.
This expressway will begin at KP Terminal and extend to Jam Sadiq Bridge, connecting with the Malir Expressway. Shah emphasized that this route will provide direct access for port traffic to the Motorway.
He also urged the PPP Board to complete the proposal swiftly, warning that if delays occur, the provincial government may fund the project independently.
The Local Government Department (LGD) has put forward a proposal to build the Mauripur Expressway and ICI Interchange through a public-private partnership. This project is designed to alleviate traffic congestion and accommodate heavy vehicles from Karachi Port.
The plan includes an 8-kilometer expressway with dual lanes in both directions, equipped with a toll plaza and weighbridge. A separate 1-kilometer, one-way interchange will be constructed at the ICI bridge. The proposal also features an interchange at Lyari Flyover, Kakapir Flyover, and a planned elevated U-turn.

So what is the purpose of white elephant Lyari Expressway, wasn’t this made for this very purpose to keep the heavy traffic away from main roads?
Till today Lyari Expressway has not relived the common people of Karachi, just few car walas.
For God sake utilize it for wider city population by opening be bus routes on it
